About the game
In the CATAN Dice Game, players build roads, settlements, cities, and knights on their own score sheet while using dice to collect the resources needed for construction. It brings the familiar resource-management and settlement-building theme of CATAN into a compact roll-and-write format that is easy to learn, quick to play, and ideal for travel or short game sessions.
On each turn, roll six resource dice up to three times. After each roll, choose which dice to keep and which to reroll, attempting to create the combinations needed to build. The dice show CATAN’s familiar resources: brick, lumber, wool, grain, ore, and gold. Spend the rolled resources to mark roads, settlements, cities, and knights on your personal island sheet.
Roads open access to new settlement and city locations, while knights provide flexible resource powers. A completed knight lets you change one die to the resource shown on its terrain hex once during the game. Timing matters: cities are worth more points, but they require more resources and must connect to your growing road network. Players also compete for bonuses such as the Longest Road and Largest Army.
After 15 turns, the player with the highest score wins. The game includes two double-sided island maps—Island One and Island Two—for different layouts and scoring challenges, and it can also be played solo.
