About the game
In Wingspan, players are bird enthusiasts—researchers, birdwatchers, ornithologists, and collectors—working to attract a diverse collection of birds to their wildlife preserves. Build habitats, gather food, lay eggs, draw new birds, and create powerful combinations across your forest, grassland, and wetland ecosystems.
Each bird has a unique illustration, habitat requirement, food cost, point value, nest type, egg capacity, wingspan, and often a special ability. Birds are played into one of three habitat rows on your personal player mat. As your preserve grows, activating a habitat becomes increasingly powerful because you trigger the abilities of birds already living there.
On your turn, place an action cube to take one of four actions:
Play a bird by paying its food cost and meeting habitat requirements.
Gain food from the birdfeeder dice tower.
Lay eggs on birds in your grassland habitat.
Draw bird cards from the bird tray or deck.
Over four rounds, players compete for end-of-round goals while developing their own bird-powered engines. Score points from birds, bonus cards, eggs, cached food, tucked cards, and completed goals. The player with the highest total at the end of the fourth round wins.
Wingspan is a competitive, card-driven engine-building strategy game known for its bird theme, scientific details, distinctive artwork, and satisfying combination-building. It won the 2019 Kennerspiel des Jahres, as well as the 2019 Golden Geek awards for Board Game of the Year, Best Strategy Game, Best Family Game, Best Solo Game, and Best Card Game
